Chepstow Town B v Monmouth Town U14
Under 14s end the year with a bang!
In the last game of the 2013 the U14s visited Chepstow Town B, a team firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. On a pitch that showed more resemblance to a farmers ploughed field than a sports ground, the young Kingfishers at first struggled to play quality football, but soon realized they would need to pass the ball around if they wanted to make headway. The defensive quartet of Lewis Griffin, Bailey Grant, Luke Brookes and Ted Heyes backed by Charlie Cooke in goal had very little to do at the back and were looking to get forward at every opportunity, whilst the midfield of Lewis Davies, Nathan Powell, Henry Williams, Jack O’nions and Aaron Jones (returning to the squad for the first time this season) ensured that any attempt from Chepstow to pick up the ball in the middle of the park was quickly extinguished, and looked to put the Kingfisher strike duo of Sam Vaughan and Kerry Powell in on goal, time and time again. At the final whistle the score was 1-14 with scorers spread throughout the Monmouth team, Vaughan (4), Kerry Powell (4), Nathan Powell (2), Davies (2), Williams and Griffin, with the two most noteworthy being a rocket from Griffin from 20 yards out, taken first time into the bottom corner leaving the Chepstow keeper with no chance, and an equally thunderous shot from Davies into the roof of the net after a strong run into the box from wide on the right. The Monmouth Town team end the year showing a new confidence in themselves and a capability to score goals that had previously seemed to elude them.
